4 Ways To Get Your Surveillance System Ready For Spring

Posted on

This spring, take a little time to check in and make sure that your home surveillance system is working properly. Check the positions of the cameras, inspect your video feed, clean your cameras, and cut back any vegetation that is in the way of your camera feed.

Check the Position of Your Cameras

The first thing you need to do is check the position of your cameras. Are they pointed where you want them pointed? Do you have a clear view of all entrances to your home? Can you see if people are approaching?

Often when you install your cameras, you just position them where you think they would best work. Now that you have had time to see how your cameras work, adjust the position of your cameras to give you as much information as possible.

Inspect the Video Feed

Second, be sure to inspect your video feed. Can you see from all of your cameras? Is there anything that is blocking your view? Is there enough light where your cameras are located to generate a clear picture?

If you find issues with the video feed, take steps to fix them. Install more lights if your video feeds are too dark, adjust the position of your cameras if you are not getting a good angle, and adjust the focus of the camera if the image is not clear.

Clean Your Cameras

Your cameras need to be cleaned at least once a year. Take a soft cloth and wipe down the outside of your cameras. Use a can of compressed air to clean your cameras and blow out the dust that may have gotten into your camera over time.

Use some window cleaning agent on the lenses of your camera. Wipe away the dust, grime, and water that may be obstructing the lenses and compromising the image that you are getting from your cameras. A little cleaning will help your cameras last longer and will help you get a clearer image as well.

Cut Back Vegetation

Finally, the vegetation around your home is not static. It grows and changes over time. Your perfect camera placement may now be compromised by a bush that has gotten a little larger, or by a tree that has spread out your branches. Spring, when your bushes and trees are still dormant, is a great time to prune your bushes and trees in a healthy manner that protects their growths and ensures that all of your cameras have a good view of your home.

Spend a little time this spring taking care of your home surveillance system to ensure that you continue to get the best images that will help keep you safe. Contact a company like All Pro Security Inc for more information and assistance.
